Helsinki Book Fair

The Helsinki Book Fair is the largest literary event in the Nordics and one of Finland's most significant cultural events. In 2026, the fair celebrates language – its power, meaning, and possibilities in literature. The programme explores the development of language and the many ways it can be shaped in the hands of writers. Each year, the fair presents nearly one thousand programme sessions, bringing together the most exciting new books and authors across all genres. The event features discussions organized in collaboration with Helsingin Sanomat examining the current state and future of the Finnish language, a new series of multilingual literary discussions, and an expanded programme on translation and world literature. The fair is a nationally significant cultural forum that brings together writers, artists, politicians, and experts to discuss important contemporary phenomena. Core values include freedom of speech, equality, and respect for human dignity. Over 1,000 performers from Finland and other countries participate, with the 2025 edition attracting a record 104,000 visitors.
