Monaco Energy Boat Challenge

The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge is a major event focused on maritime innovation, organized and developed by the Yacht Club de Monaco since 2014. The 13th edition brings together 43 teams representing 21 nationalities from Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa. Every year, engineering students design prototype boats powered by alternative energies, namely hydrogen, solar and electric. The event has become established as a benchmark in the sustainable yachting and maritime energy transition field. The challenge is based on the values of innovation and sustainability, with participants encouraged to explore new technologies, innovative materials, and alternative propulsion systems that minimize environmental impact while maintaining nautical performance. This includes the use of solar energy, hydrogen, electricity, and other renewable energy sources to power the vessels. Over four days of on-water trials and technical exchange, students, engineers and industry professionals test cutting-edge propulsion concepts aimed at accelerating the energy transition in yachting. More than 1,000 students and young engineers are expected to participate, benefiting from direct interaction with shipyards, technology developers and maritime institutions.
