About This Event
The Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival is Thailand's most elaborate candle procession celebrating Buddhist Lent. The festival features massive intricately carved wax sculptures and candles paraded through the city streets. International sculptors collaborate with Thai artists to create magnificent sculptures that are exhibited to audiences. The event combines traditional Buddhist ceremonies with artistic displays, performances, and local markets. The festival marks Asalha Bucha and Wan Khao Phansa in the Buddhist calendar, when monks begin their seasonal retreat. Giant candle floats depict stories from sacred texts, mythical animals, and royal history, becoming visual narratives that tell age-old tales.
