About Comic-Con International
Comic-Con International, officially known as San Diego Comic Convention, is a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation founded in 1970 and dedicated to creating the general public's awareness of and appreciation for comics and related popular art forms. The organization began as a one-day convention called San Diego's Golden State Comic-Minicon and has grown into the world's largest comic book and pop culture convention, attracting over 130,000 attendees annually. Comic-Con International operates multiple major events including the flagship San Diego Comic-Con, WonderCon in Anaheim, and the Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park. The organization also hosts Storytelling Across Media symposiums, the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival, and the prestigious Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards. Beyond conventions, Comic-Con International runs educational programs including Comic-Con Graphic Novel Book Clubs in partnership with San Diego libraries, field trips for Title I schools, and the Comic-Con Conference for Educators and Librarians. The organization serves the entertainment industry by providing platforms for comic book publishers, film studios, television networks, gaming companies, and creators to showcase their work to passionate fans and industry professionals. Comic-Con International has evolved from its humble comic book origins to encompass all aspects of popular culture including movies, television, animation, gaming, and digital media while maintaining its core mission of celebrating comics as a legitimate art form.
