About Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA), headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is the government entity responsible for regulating and implementing comprehensive policies to achieve water and food security in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Established in 1953 as one of the eight founding ministries prior to the first Council of Ministers meeting, MEWA's mission centers on supporting the agricultural movement and improving services in collaboration with the private sector to achieve sustainability across the environment, water, and agriculture sectors. The ministry is organized into ten deputy ministries covering areas such as Environment, Water, Agriculture, Planning and Institutional Excellence, Land and Survey, Research and Innovation, and Economic Affairs and Investment, and its minister chairs the boards of several related entities, including the General Food Security Authority, the Saline Water Conversion Corporation, the National Center for Wildlife, the National Water Company, and the Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company (SALIC). MEWA leads the National Transformation Program, encompassing the Environmental Transformation Program, Water Transformation Program, and Agricultural Transformation Program, and provides services across seven sectors, including water, agriculture, livestock, environment, fisheries, and lands and surveys, for individuals, businesses, government agencies, and voluntary associations across the Kingdom.
