Singapore Academy of Law

The Singapore Academy of Law (SAL), established by an Act of Parliament in 1988 and headquartered at The Adelphi in Singapore, is a promotion and development agency for Singapore's legal industry. Led by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon and a distinguished Senate comprising the Attorney-General, the Supreme Court Bench, and leaders of the legal profession, SAL represents a vibrant legal community of more than 14,000 members, including judges, practitioners, legal service officers, corporate counsel, and academics from Singapore's leading law schools. SAL's mandate centers on building the intellectual capital of the legal profession, raising the international profile of Singapore law, promoting Singapore as a centre for dispute resolution, and elevating the standards and efficiency of legal practice through continuing professional development and technology. The organization undertakes statutory functions including stakeholding services and the appointment of Senior Counsel, Commissioners for Oaths, and Notaries Public, and operates three subsidiaries: the Singapore Mediation Centre, the Asian Business Law Institute, and LawNet Technology Services. SAL also organizes the annual TechLaw.Fest conference together with Singapore's Ministry of Law, a global gathering of legal and technology professionals that has featured speakers including Sir Tim Berners-Lee.
