NRG Center is a premier convention center located in Houston, Texas, and ranks as the eighth largest convention center in the United States. Originally known as Reliant Center when it opened on April 12, 2002, with the Houston Auto Show as its inaugural event, the facility was renamed to NRG Center on March 12, 2014, following the acquisition of Reliant Energy by NRG Energy. The center is part of the expansive 350-acre NRG Park complex, which also includes NRG Stadium, NRG Arena, and the historic Astrodome. Designed by Hermes Reed Architects, NRG Center offers over 706,000 square feet of contiguous single-level exhibition space that can be divided into 11 separate halls, making it highly versatile for various event configurations. The facility features 59 meeting rooms configurable into over 100 variations, 2 major conference centers, 109 loading bays, over 150,000 square feet of registration space, and a 280,000 square foot marshaling area. The convention floor runs over 0.25 miles in length, while the total building size spans 1,532 feet long and 590 feet wide, encompassing a total area of 1.4 million square feet. NRG Center serves diverse industries and hosts some of Houston's largest conventions and trade shows, including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Offshore Technology Conference, Houston Auto Show, International Gem & Jewelry Show, Nutcracker Market, Houston Gun Collector's and Antique Show, and the Houston Boat, Sport, and Travel Show. The facility is equipped with advanced technological infrastructure including high-speed internet access, pre-wired fiber optic cabling backbone, on-site production facilities, 120 television monitors, and web-casting capabilities. The center has also served as an emergency relief shelter during major disasters, hosting thousands of Hurricane Katrina refugees in 2005 and Hurricane Harvey evacuees in 2017, demonstrating its critical role in the community beyond commercial events. With ceiling heights ranging from 25 to 60 feet and 15 freight doors providing direct truck access to the exhibit floor, NRG Center offers exceptional logistical capabilities for large-scale exhibitions and conventions.
