About American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) is the national professional association established in 1917 to represent the interests and concerns of occupational therapy practitioners and students of occupational therapy and to improve the quality of occupational therapy services. Founded originally as the National Society for the Promotion of Occupational Therapy, AOTA has been at the forefront of protecting and advancing the occupational therapy profession for over a century. The organization represents the professional interests and concerns of more than 213,000 occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and students nationwide, with members residing in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and internationally. AOTA's major programs and activities are directed toward assuring the quality of occupational therapy services, improving consumer access to health care services, and promoting the professional development of members. The association organizes the annual AOTA INSPIRE conference, which is the largest gathering of occupational therapy professionals in the world, featuring educational sessions, networking opportunities, and an exposition hall. AOTA educates the public and advances the profession by providing resources, setting standards, and serving as an advocate to improve health care. The organization is led by CEO Katie Jordan, OTD, MBA, OTR/L, FAOTA, who joined AOTA in August 2024 as the first occupational therapist to lead the organization since 1999.
