About American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association
American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA), formed on October 1, 1997, through the merger of three predecessor engineering associations with roots dating back to 1883, is headquartered in Lanham, Maryland. AREMA is a professional association for railway and transit engineering personnel, comprising nearly 6,000 members. The organization offers educational opportunities and produces recommended practices for railway engineering infrastructure including track, structures, and communications and signals. AREMA publishes the Manual for Railway Engineering and hosts an annual conference and technical exhibition serving the North American railway industry.
