About American Society for Mass Spectrometry
American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) was formed in 1969 to promote and disseminate knowledge of mass spectrometry and allied topics, evolving from the ASTM Committee E-14 on Mass Spectrometry which had been established in 1953. The organization is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation with over 8,500 scientists involved in research and development as members. Members come from academic, industrial and governmental laboratories worldwide, with interests including advancement of techniques and instrumentation in mass spectrometry, as well as fundamental research in chemistry, geology, forensics, biological sciences and physics. ASMS sponsors the Annual Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics that is attended by more than 6,000 scientists, featuring approximately 3,300 papers presented as posters and talks. The society also organizes specialized conferences including the Asilomar Conference which is highly focused on specific research topics, the Fall Workshop that explores emerging technology, and the Sanibel Conference highlighting specific topics of current interest. ASMS publishes the Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (JASMS), a peer-reviewed monthly journal with comprehensive coverage of research and development in mass spectrometry. The organization is governed by an elected Board of Directors and maintains its headquarters in Santa Fe, New Mexico, serving as one of the most dynamic scientific societies in the world dedicated to advancing mass spectrometry and related technologies across multiple disciplines.
