About American Society of Naturalists
American Society of Naturalists (ASN), founded in 1883 in Massachusetts, is one of the oldest professional societies dedicated to the biological sciences in North America. The society's journal operations are administered through the University of Chicago Press in Chicago, Illinois. Its purpose is to advance and diffuse knowledge of organic evolution and other broad biological principles to enhance the conceptual unification of the biological sciences. The society publishes The American Naturalist, first published in 1867, and holds an annual meeting called Evolution jointly with the Society for the Study of Evolution and Society of Systematic Biologists. ASN has international membership with about a third of members living outside the United States.
