New Jersey Education Association

New Jersey Education Association is a diverse, democratic organization founded in 1853 as the New Jersey State Teachers Association to elevate the teaching profession and improve public education. Over 173 years, NJEA has grown into one of the nation's largest and most effective public school employee unions, representing more than 200,000 educators including teachers, educational support professionals, preservice educators, and retired members across New Jersey. The organization operates from its headquarters in Trenton and serves members in over 1,000 local associations across 600 school districts statewide. NJEA organizes the annual NJEA Convention, recognized as the largest gathering of K-12 educators in the world, drawing over 20,000 teachers and educational support professionals to Atlantic City each November. The convention features more than 300 professional development seminars, workshops, and programs designed to help educators hone their skills and stay current in their fields. NJEA advocates for great salaries, benefits and working conditions for staff while working to ensure safe schools, sufficient resources and opportunities for students. The association provides professional development opportunities, legal aid, collective bargaining assistance, and advocacy training to support its members. NJEA is affiliated with the National Education Association and maintains political action committees to advocate for education policies and candidates who support public education in New Jersey.
