About SacAnime
SacAnime is a pop-culture entertainment convention organizer founded by Dan Houck in 2004, based in Sacramento, California. The company began as an extension of the quarterly Sacramento Comic, Toy and Anime Show (SAC-CON), which has been running since July 1, 1986. Originally a strictly comic book show, SAC-CON grew to encompass all forms of pop-culture entertainment with a large emphasis on anime and manga. In 2004, when the manager of Waldenbooks at Sunrise Mall approached Dan Houck about organizing an anime show at the mall due to strong manga sales, SacAnime was born on the last weekend of July 2004. The company operates as a sole proprietorship and has grown significantly over the years, moving from small venues to major convention centers. SacAnime moved to the Scottish Rite Center in January 2005 with over 1,000 attendees, then to the Woodlake Hotel in 2009, and finally to the Sacramento Convention Center in 2013 where it remains today. The company's philosophy has always been to provide fun, safe, family-friendly entertainment at reasonable prices, with their motto being where Fans Come to Play. SacAnime now attracts approximately 17,000 attendees for summer shows and 12,000 for winter shows, making it one of the largest pop culture conventions in Northern California. The company also organizes related events including Bak-Anime in Bakersfield and SacAnime Roseville, expanding their reach throughout California.
