About Seoul Metropolitan Government
The Seoul Metropolitan Government, headquartered at Seoul City Hall on Sejong-daero in Jung-gu, Seoul, is the local government authority for the city of Seoul, South Korea's capital and largest metropolitan area. The government provides extensive information and services to citizens and visitors covering the city's main policies, history, culture, tourism, medical welfare, and transportation, with its current Seoul City Hall building, opened in October 2012, embodying the city's vision of a 'city hall of culture' founded on communication, openness, and public participation. Seoul Metropolitan Government oversees the city's extensive public transportation network, including its subway system and bus services featuring exclusive median bus lanes, and the city is regularly ranked among the world's most competitive cities through indices such as the Global Power City Index and Mercer's Quality of Living survey. The government organizes major recurring public events such as the Seoul Photo Festival and the Seoul International Garden Show, and promotes citizen engagement through initiatives including the Sky Plaza Gallery, an exhibition space inside City Hall that selects three to five artists or teams annually through an open call. Seoul Metropolitan Government also operates a multilingual civil petition system, allowing residents and visitors to submit policy questions and inquiries in multiple languages including English, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Mongolian.
