About World Biogas Association (WBA)
The World Biogas Association (WBA) is the global trade association for the biogas, landfill gas and anaerobic digestion sectors, launched at the COP22 climate conference in Marrakesh in 2016. WBA represents organisations working in the biogas industry at an international level, including national biogas associations, plant operators and developers, equipment providers, water companies, agricultural businesses, waste management companies and academic and research institutions. Its mission centres on ensuring that the roughly 105 billion tonnes of organic waste generated globally each year is captured, treated and transformed through anaerobic digestion and related technologies into green gas, biofertilisers, bioCO2 and other valuable byproducts, helping to cut methane and other greenhouse gas emissions. WBA organises the World Biogas Summit, a major international thought-leadership event held annually in the UK, and has published reports such as Biogas: Pathways to 2030, which provides governments with recommendations for deploying anaerobic digestion at scale. The association's Council includes representatives from national biogas associations across South Africa, the United States, the Netherlands, France and other countries.
