About World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO)
The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO), established by 50 founding members in 2010 and with its Secretariat hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, is an international association of city and other local governments, smart tech solution providers, and national and regional institutions committed to transforming cities into smart sustainable cities. WeGO has grown to include nearly 200 members worldwide, supported by regional offices across Africa (Abuja, Nigeria), East Asia (Chengdu, China), Eurasia (Ulyanovsk Region, Russia), the Mediterranean (Beyoğlu, Turkey), and Latin America (Mexico City, Mexico). The organization's vision centers on creating cities that ensure enduring economic, social, and environmental sustainability by leveraging digital technologies, engaging city leaders and communities, and accessing investment for smart sustainable city development, with an added emphasis on 'people' alongside the traditional public-private partnership model. WeGO's activities include capacity-building programs such as the WeGO Smart City Champions youth program, training initiatives co-organized with partners including South Korea's National Information Society Agency, and its 'Solutions Meet Cities' matchmaking webinar series connecting local governments with technology solution providers. The organization also presents the Seoul Smart City Prize, recognizing cities for human-centered smart city development, in partnership with organizations such as IMD.
